Free Space game, HTML game (browser based game)

July 26, 2008 :: Posted by - Gnar :: Category - Free Games

This game is pretty cool, its located at Ogame.org. You start off as a small colony on a distant planet in a galaxy… Far Far Away, well–Haha!  You start with a planet anyways, not far from too much but this game is pretty cool you harvest resources to maintain your planets advancement. The resources harvested are Metal, Crystal, Deuterium and Dark matter. As you begin to grow you empire you create shipyards and begin to amass a fleet to conquer the Galaxy you started in, This game is much like others I have played in the web based genre but I have yet to run into hostile forces, maybe I am just lucky or these players are more Civilized and not ready to crack the noobs into the ground unless they talk some smack. There is no downloads required to play this game and its pretty easy to get into and spend a few minutes a day upgrading you troops and buildings.  Anyways, if your a fan of MOO3, or any of the master of orion series, this game is worth a look. This game eventually allows you to purchase leaders much like MOO did also you can form alliances. The only difference I see right now is that there are no racial bonuses for colonies, but I suspect as the game progresses that these will become available.

Free Flash Games TOD 1.5

December 26, 2007 :: Posted by - Gnar :: Category - Free Games

So Tower of Defense is so old news by now! But heh better late than never. Anywhoo, Grandpa has been blasting away at Tower of Defense 1.5 @ Kongregate.com, This game starts out very annoying I can see the appeal to beat it. Right now I been playing TOD challenge mode on spawns… These fricking things are annoying if you want to blast this game, I recommend practice on a 3k fixed challenge and learn a bit about the towers.. Once you get and idea on what different towers do you can adjust your style to fit your play, but for the most part if you want to crush this game it will take a bit of time to master it. I still have a long way to go but it is definetley worth its entertainment value of FREE! For a free flash game this is a good value considering the price of clicking on a few ads.  I have ranked on hard mode and a few other modes but it still is tough to get going some games. Over all Tower of Defense 1.5 is a good zerg game to kill some time with if you want between your World of Warcraft spawns or whateva.

Yet Another Abandonware Free DOS game by Microporse… Master of Magic.

November 07, 2007 :: Posted by - Gnar :: Category - Free Games

Master of Magic: MOM a turn based strategy game from Microprose the orginal release date on this game was in 93’. The game was developed by Simtex, While many reveiews sited this game as being civilization in a fantasy setting. There was much more to it then just a Civ template on a fantasy world. Master of Magic had a very expansive and unique spell system for it’s time.

Also the random map generator on this game allowed for a vast amount of Re-playability. You build up your empire in Master of Magic with settlers that go out and expand on terrain they can settle on. This game was a very fun game to play, If you are looking for a Free Dos game that is a sleeper in my book not many people knew about this game but it is a true gem in the rough for it’s release period. Make sure you upgrade to version 1.31 patch for Master of Magic as earlier releases of this game had some bugs in gameplay.

Download Master Of Magic DOS game online here.

Free Game of the week—Retro space games, MOO

November 03, 2007 :: Posted by - Gnar :: Category - Free Games

That’s right Master of Orion! This game absolutely ROCKED, this game was developed by Simtex and published by Microprose. For the longest stretch back in my DOS/Win95 game playing days most of my favs came from MPS. MOO was released in 1993, it was a turn based strategy game. This game was the typical 4x(explore, exploit, exterminate, expand) space game but there was something addictive and replayable about this game.

Free space combat simulation MMORPG

Welcome to Allegiance

The web site claims “Welcome to Allegiance! The best game you’ve never played.”

This game is shared source from a MMORPG abandoned by Microsoft, The game now is maintained developed by volunteers. Allegiance received GameSpot’s Best Game No One Played award in 2000. This game is actually part MMORPG, part RTS and part shooter.

This game combines a great deal of teamwork and face paced space combat in a 3D environment. The RTS element of this game with individuals controlling each unit is a really cool concept about this game.

This game has 3 main technology bases: Supremacy, Tactical and Expansion. You are allowed to choose different factions. This games lack of commercial success is no wonder, at the time we had a growing Everquest fan base and unreliable Microsoft zone and lack of advertising.

Over all the learning curve on this game is huge this game is not for the faint of heart, but if you like the idea of being able to pilot you own ship or even being a turret gunner on a larger capital ship.

This game is old enough you don’t need a monster system to enjoy it.

Microsoft Windows 98, Windows 2000 (SP4) or Windows XP (SP1)
DirectX 9.0c December 2006 Runtimes (Windows 98: DirectX 8.1)

Multimedia PC Pentium 200 MHz with 3D card, Multimedia PC Pentium II 266MHz without a 3D card, Multimedia Pentium II PC with 300MHz with 3D card recommended.
32MB of RAM required, 64 MB recommended.

Free Flash Games: Based on Dark Tower electronic board game by Milton Bradley.

October 28, 2007 :: Posted by - Gnar :: Category - Free Games

   This game is based on a board game by Milton Bradley. This game was released in 1981. The Dark Tower board itself is a pretty simple, game board is divided in 4 different parts, 1 for each color. Basically you run around and explore tombs, ruins and crypts. You will visit these locations and try to obtain a key for that “Frontier” once you have the key for that frontier or Zone, you can move on to the next and start exploring it.

   Ultimately your main goal is to be the first player to amass an army big enough to enter the Dark Tower and defeat the enemy that lurks inside. In this game you will need to haggle with the Bazaar to get the best price on the special troops and food. To win you will need to be lucky as well as a shrewd businessman.

  Should I Haggle the man in the bazaar one extra time to save that much needed gold or pay a little extra so he doesn’t close the door in your face. Over all, many of nights were spent playing this game this game is definitely a classic in my book. If you have some time to kill check this game out it was a very fun game to play.

Learn to play Dark Tower:
If you want a more comprehensive write up on the rules of Dark Tower Electronic board game. here.

Play Dark Tower Flash Game:
I found 2 version of this game online.
Version 1 is single player only
Version 2 Multiplayer DarkTower board game.

Interesting news on this game, essentially why this game has become so rare to find is because Milton Bradley was hit with a law suit on intellectual property laws. Here is the Wiki write up on it.

Working copies of Dark Tower are increasingly hard to find, and thus highly sought after by collectors. This is primarily due to two things: wear and tear on the tower unit, which tended to experience technical faults with the light bulbs and carousel after prolonged use, and, the fact that the game went out of print shortly after release due to a lawsuit brought against Milton Bradley for intellectual property theft. The suit was brought by two men who claimed to have presented the original concept for “Dark Tower” to Milton Bradley in the late Seventies, at which point, MB declined to pursue it. Thereafter, they claimed, MB independently developed the game based on their proposal. As part of the resolution of the lawsuit, Milton Bradley pulled the game off the market, and it was never republished.

You can find more about this law suit, Triumph was a prototype microprocessor-controlled board game invented by Alan Coleman and Roger Burten in 1979 that was, according to a successful lawsuit, the indirect ancestor of Dark Tower.

Online Free web games. This week we review Utopia.

October 21, 2007 :: Posted by - Gnar :: Category - Free Games

 The web site for this game calls this a 100% free interactive web game. Utopia is a two-time winner of the People’s Voice Webby gaming site of the Year. In this game you pick your race, you choose between orcs, humans, elves, gnomes and Dark Elves. This game is a pretty typical fantasy RPG type game of conquest. At first glance this game reminded me a lot of the game King’s of Chaos. But this game has many more options than the King’s of Chaos that I remember playing.

 This game is a text based game through your browser. The learning curve on this game is pretty quick to get into but, it takes some time to master. You receive gold every hour depending on your bonuses for your race and the number of banks. This game is pretty cool in that you can build technology through the use of books and increase certain area’s tech of your Kingdom. In Utopia you start on a island with a few other poor sap’s and you need to work as a team to build your kingdom up and make it powerful. I really liked that aspect of Utopia, also you can explore new lands or gain lands though conquest and you can cast spells and even pillage the enemies land with thieves. Eventually you vote on the leader for you Kingdom.

  The game is free because of in game ads. At first they are not really annoying but in a few days you will get flooded with them and they become more annoying. But since I understand its a free model they need to pay for there costs some how so I didn’t really mind them. You can also subscribe to a premium model that is ad free for a few dollars a month. This is probably the better option if you plan on playing this game for a significant amount of time. Unlike other free web based games I have played there is no special bonus for signing up as a premium customer, they simply remove the ads. Overall I would rate this game 3.8 out of 5 stars.

 The things I would like to see them improve is adding a map so its a little easier to visualize the game board but overall it was fun to play til the age came to an end. The ages typically last about 6 months in our earth years. Another plus is this is a browser based game and there is no huge download to wait for, you can pretty much jump right in and start playing.

You can find the website here.

Have Fun!

Free game of the Week–AllPcs.us Review

October 16, 2007 :: Posted by - Gnar :: Category - Free Games

  This week we will spotlight another FPS game. Oh how fragging someone else is so satisfying. LMAO, Anyways the game we chose tonight is based on the Quake 3 engine.  Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory in this game you can choose many different occupations from a secret agent to medic. As a secret agent you get to go stealth mode once you loot an oposing teams uniform, let the carnage begin as you backstab your way to the top! Or as medic you can heal you friends with med kits til your resources dry up.

  This game is a WWII throw back with a twist. This game is a really fun free way to frag your friends. Anyways here is a link to the game.  If you play on a server that allow you to save your avatar you can make levels and more!!! Or just start as a Soldat and frag the enemy with grenades and mortars. Pretty cool free game if you ask me. Huge re-playability options.

Have fun!
